10 Things A Guy Needs to Get

Listening to the Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA Titus series, pastor Scott Thomas listed 10 things a guy needs to get in the 3rd message, Building a Strong Foundation in the Gospel (Titus 2:1-15) of the series. Here’s the list:

10 Things A Guy Needs to Get:
1. Get out of bed
2. Get a plan for his life
3. Get a job
4. Get educated
5. Get off addictive elements
6. Get out of her bed
7. Get a bible
8. Get a church and serve in it
9. Get a mentor
10. Get Jesus

I don’t know that the order of events is so important, but I couldn’t agree more! Specifically for young men, the attraction all around is is to feed our desire for sex, entertainment, alcohol, and food, yet God’s word states:

“Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.” (Titus 2:6-8)

This instruction is actually to older men in how they should teach, encourage, and model life to younger men. Perhaps more older men also need to step up to the plate; regardless, someone needs to reverse the trend.

Let us, as young men, spur each other on to maturity and be the needed leaders in our homes, work places, communities, and churches.

I opened up this blog post and went straight to the list. My first thought was “this sounds like Mark Driscoll.” Mars Hill, close enough. Mars Hill has a good word to our generation (especially the male variety). Grow up, get a job, get a wife, get some kids, get a mortgage…how many people do you hear saying those types of things?

  2. This is great! I love the list there, funny and true. This post helped me a ton, thanks for posting. 🙂
