How to Best Determine Right from Wrong

In The Pursuit of Holiness, Jerry Bridges points out, from principles in scripture, four questions to ask yourself to aid in determining if a particular action is right or wrong:

“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. 1 Corinthians 6:12 ESV

Question #1

Is it helpful physically, spiritually, and mentally?

Question #2

Does it bring me under its power?

Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. 1 Corinthians 8:13 ESV

Question #3

Does it hurt others?

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

Question #4

Does it glorify God?

Put these four questions to the test. What currently in your life or what action are you considering that these questions may help you see as unprofitable? Sinful for this time and place in your life? What do you need to prayerfully consier or re-consider?
