Rescue the Perishing

Tuesday’s Tunes

But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. Jude 1:17-23 ESV

Misinformation abounds. There are false teachers outside of Christianity and wolves from within. The internet places information quickly within our grasp and though it aides in the spreading of the good news that salvation is available through Jesus Christ, it also aides in spreading lies from the war room of the father of lies.

Like in the days of Jude, we must be on guard against false ideas holding on to truth. We must “build yourselves up in your most holy faith” but also we must “snatch (others) out of the fire”. We must be a voice amidst the noise to let others know of the truth of Jesus. After all, he is THE way, THE truth and THE life.

As I was working this morning, this old song from Fanny Crosby came to mind. This is a great old song that spurs me on to the work that the church is called to. I hope you are encouraged and challenged as well.

Rescue the Perishing
by Fanny Crosby

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand’rer a Savior has died.

Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
