Temptation calling?

My 6 year-old son came out of Sunday School recently with a footprint-shaped piece of paper labeled “Steps to obey”. I thought the teaching was worth sharing:

Steps to obey:

1) STOP

Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.Psalm 25:4-5

2) Think aobut what might happen

Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Psalm 119:34

3) Remember what the bible teaches
4) Ask God to help you

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:1-5

This wisdom is valuable to us all. Though as a child I presumed that I would eventually grow out of suceptibility to temptation, I know well enough now that as an adult, the temptations are equally as strong and at times much more so.

Let us press on and resist temption trusting in the Holy Spirit to lead us onto sanctification.

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:14 ESV
