Good News

Our world is filled with bad news. It’s easy to find and, in many cases, finds us. There is good news to be found. I hope and pray that your eyes may be opened to clearly see the depth of good in this news.

In the beginning, God created. He created light. He created earth. He created the birds of the air and the beasts of the field. He created fish in the sea and plants, many of them quite beautiful, and placed them in the seas, on mountains, in forests, jungles, deserts and plains. God created all said that it was good.

He created Adam to look over the earth and created Eve as a suitable helper to Adam. Adam and Eve decided that God was hiding something better from them, decided to disobey and ate the fruit from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It was after their disobedience they felt shame, saw that they were naked and hid from God out of the shame of thier disobedience.

As a result of this disobedience, Adam and Eve were removed from the garden, made to work the ground and Eve with pain in childbirth. Their disobedience, or sin, separated them from God and frustrated their relationships with God, each other, animals, and the earth. Since that time the whole of creation has been subjected to futility.

The Good News is that God didn’t stop there. God has made a way out of the mess that was started in the garden. Though each of us has chosen his/her own way and refused to submit to and follow God and therefore deserve the death that results from sin, God has opened a door through which we can be restored to life and free from the chains of slavery to sin: pride, arrogance, self-indulgence, etc.

Though sin and rebellion result in death, Jesus became human and became a perfect sacrifice for you and me, dieing the death that we earned and deserve and offering us freedom, life, and restoration to God in it’s place.

What must you do to receive this good news of life? Repent. Lay down your pride. Leave behind your self-sufficient ways. Confess all wrong-doings to our Creator and rest in the mercy of life that He freely offers.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:9-10
